Hanan is a poet, writer and artist whose work explores identity, belonging, language, family and the many ways people inhabit a place. Her writing draws on Welsh, Iraqi and Muslim heritage, as well as her experiences of contemporary life in Wales.Hanan’s work spans poetry, film, essays and cultural commentary. She has represented Wales nationally and internationally through readings, broadcasts, festivals and public events.Her appointment as National Poet of Wales recognises her contribution to contemporary Welsh literature and her role in bringing poetry into public life.
